It was our first trip to Menorca. We stayed for two
weeks. We were lucky with the weather, hot and sunny, but it can be mixed
in May. We did have a few days of windy weather.
We were on the 5th floor with a sea view, large balcony
with two chairs, loads of room and private from the adjacent room.
The air-con. was good, but often at night we left the
door ajar a little. No mosquitoes.
I like to paint watercolours and my wife takes loads of
novels to read. We usually have a day in and a day out exploring.
From the balcony the bay stretches out in a beautiful
crescent shape with a sea of jade greens and purples . The sand on the beach
is good and the sea shelves slowly so that the more timid, or children can
safely swim. The sea here on the north coast is a few degrees colder than
the south coast of Menorca so few people do seem to swim at this time of
year. Most paddle, but isn't this the case anywhere.
We walked along the cliff paths and were fascinated by
the clouds of butterflies and interesting flowers. There is a couple of
walks in easy reach.
The Thomson trip around the island at 45 Euros each was
very disappointing. They are not what they used to be. OK if you like
horses it's just about fine. We used the buses a lot. They are not that frequent, but arrive on
time, cheap and comfortable. Next time we go to Menorca we will hire a car
since the roads seem empty.
As probably all reviews mention the beach is not that
easy to get down to, and back. There are a lot of steps, but because we were
half -board the steps were one way of working off the food which was top
notch! Instead of walking to the beach, Oscar drives the hotel free bus on
the hour, back and forth until 5pm.
Not many shops to see here, just the usual stuff.
Similar to anywhere else.
We do not usually like sitting round at night watching
entertainment. We were pleasantly surprised how good everything was. An
excellent range of entertainment from all concerned. They are very talented
and work their socks off for everyone, day and half the night. Yes, the
Saxology singers, musicians looked talented but jaded but their slot was at
11pm just as many people were clearing off to bed.
